The Art House

The Art House

Strategic location - 4 minute drive down to Petone Station where there is free parking, jump on a train for a 12 minute trip to Wellington. Jackson Street (6 minute drive) has more than than 60 restaurants, bars and cafés. From here it is a 15 - 20 minute drive to ferry terminals and CBD.

There is no kitchen, just a microwave, kettle/jug and bar fridge.

The space

The narrow lounge and dining area has a sofa and TV, leading on to a bathroom with a basin, shower and toilet. The bedroom has a queen bed. There is a dedicated office/workspace room.

If the weather is decent, enjoy the harbor view and have a morning coffee or evening tea at the table and chairs on the little deck outside your suite.

The interior has African safari meets industrial chic vibe, because beauty makes life better, and because we are originally from Zimbabwe. When it is chilly, you can put on the heat pump (aka air conditioner) and tuck a rug around your knees while you watch Netflix, stream YouTube, or catch up on some local TV.

The bedroom has a queen bed with an electric blanket, heaps of pillows, and a blanket box useful for putting luggage on.
Next to the bedroom is a dedicated office/workspace room. Wi-Fi is unlimited. This room has a cupboard that has hanging space and some hangers for clothing. It can also serve are a luggage storage area. It also has an ironing board (the iron is stored in the bathroom).

You have your own private bathroom with a basin, shower and toilet, between the lounge and the bedroom. The shower is narrow, but has good pressure and there is plenty of hot water.

If you need dinner, Jackson Street in Petone is a 6-minute drive (or Uber Eats) down the hill and has SO MANY food options.
There are 6 Asian fusion restaurants, 4 Chinese restaurants, 3 Thai restaurants (and 7 Indian restaurants.
There is a Vegan restaurant.
There is an Italian restaurant on Jackson Street, and La Bella Italia just off Jackson Street in Nevis Street (great food and gelato).
There are 1 Spanish, 2 Turkish and 3 Mexican restaurants.
There are 2 Japanese restaurants, a Sushi place and 5 Fish & Chip shops.
There are 10 pub/alehouse eateries.
There are 3 pizza places, a Subway and a McDonalds.
There are Pak'n'Save and Countdown supermarkets.
There are 11 Cafés open during the day.
You might be able to find something that you want to eat...

The couch/sofa also turns into a double bed - please let me know if you would like to use it and I will provide extra bedding. The sofa bed is decent, but not as comfy as the main bed, so you might have to play ‘rock, paper, scissors’ to decide who sleeps where.

We are also near a pedestrian walkway down to Petone train station. If you like exercise, you will love this walk through indigenous forest! The walkway comes out near the upper car park for Petone Station.

If you like op (opportunity = previously loved) shopping/charity shops/thrifting, have a wander down Jackson Street. There are seven op shops along there (dotted among all the eateries), plus a number of other boutique and specialty shops, and K-mart and The Warehouse are nearby for general shopping.

It’s also fun to walk on Petone beach.

The 12-minute train ride into Wellington is lovely, and the platforms are right next to Sky Stadium, convenient if you have an event there. Walking along the waterfront is delightful, and I’m not even going to try and tell you how many restaurants there are.
Te Papa Museum is along the waterfront and is awesome if you have time for a visit. Some hardy souls like jumping into the sea off Wellington Harbor, or wading in a leisurely fashion at Oriental Bay. So much fun to be had!
